Med/Surg Travel Nurse Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Maryland
• At least 1 year of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Recent experience using EPIC electronic medical records required
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification
• NIHSS certification
• Strong medical-surgical assessment, prioritization, and time-management skills
• Current, unexpired driver’s license required for submission
• Ability to work 12-hour day shifts, every other weekend, and rotating holidays
• Willingness to float to other units as needed to provide additional clinical support

Medical-Surgical RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for adult and pediatric medical-surgical patients with varied diagnoses and acuity levels.
• Care for patients with conditions including congestive heart failure, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, orthopedic needs, detoxification, and postoperative recovery.
• Perform nursing assessments, administer medications, monitor patient status, and evaluate responses to treatment.
• Care for patients requiring CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy in collaboration with respiratory therapy.
• Monitor and document patient telemetry information in accordance with unit procedures.
• Communicate effectively with providers, nursing staff, support personnel, patients, and families.
• Document accurate and timely patient care in EPIC.
• Float to other departments as a tasker or additional set of hands when requested.
• Participate in unit orientation, required training, and ongoing nursing education.
