Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in California or a compact license held in hand at submission
• At least 1 year of professional nursing experience; 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience preferred
• Recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience in an acute-care setting
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Current NRP certification
• AWHONN Intermediate and/or Advanced certification, as applicable to the assignment
• Epic electronic health record (EHR) charting experience required
• Demonstrated competency with sterile vaginal examinations, electronic fetal monitoring, delivery support, and postpartum care
• Ability to float to postpartum or other designated units as needed
• Two professional references covering at least 1 year of recent nursing experience

Travel Labor & Delivery RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and the postpartum period.
• Perform obstetric patient triage, ongoing assessments, and recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns.
• Assist with vaginal deliveries, high-risk deliveries, cesarean sections, and newborn recovery.
• Administer and monitor therapies including oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, antihypertensives, anticoagulants, and pain medications.
• Manage epidural and Foley catheter care, IV access, infusion pumps, internal and external fetal monitoring, and related Labor & Delivery equipment.
• Support newborn assessment, neonatal resuscitation, thermoregulation, identification procedures, metabolic screening, and breastfeeding education.
• Provide postpartum assessments, including fundus, lochia, perineum, wound, and hemorrhage evaluations.
• Educate patients and families about recovery, newborn care, breastfeeding, discharge instructions, and warning signs.
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives, anesthesia, respiratory services, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, and other interdisciplinary care team members.
• Maintain accurate documentation in Epic and promote safe, compassionate, patient-centered nursing care.
