Travel Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) – 12-Hour Night Shift in Carbondale, Illinois
Join an adult medical-surgical nursing team in Carbondale, Illinois, for a 13-week travel nursing assignment beginning October 5, 2026. Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license
- At least 1 year of recent adult medical-surgical nursing experience
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or demonstrated competency
- Experience caring for stroke patients strongly preferred
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend, and every other holiday
- Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and clinical judgment skills
Med/Surg Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients during 12-hour night shifts
- Care for a diverse patient population, including stroke, post-operative, comfort-care, hospice, and medically complex patients
- Monitor and manage patients with altered mental status, COPD exacerbations, acute kidney injury, dialysis needs, and alcohol withdrawal
- Care for patients with heparin infusions, wound-care needs, amputations, drains, chest tubes, and feeding tubes
- Perform focused neurological assessments and recognize changes in patients with stroke-related conditions
- Administer medications and treatments safely while monitoring patient response
- Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and evaluate individualized plans of care
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care coordination activities
- Promote patient safety, dignity, comfort, and effective discharge planning
